Welcome

Welcome to the digital portfolio of Katelyn Scott, teacher candidate. This digital blog/portfolio has two purposes. The first is to display my course work for submission as part of my Teaching with Technology course. The second is to support my growth, currently as a teacher candidate, and in the future as a teacher, by providing a digital space for me to both reflect on my practice, and collaborate with others by sharing resources I find, and activities, lessons, and units I create. I look forward to challenging my thinking, and I hope you will aide me in this challenge!

My PLN

One of the professional development activities that I attend this year and really enjoyed was the Project Wild workshop.

Project Wild is an environmental education workshop.  It was a full-day, hands-on program that provided valuable environmental education experiences and an abundance of resources to use in the classroom.

This was one of our instructors, Bob, he was great!

During the workshop I also learned a really fantastically hands on way to teach photosynthesis. My instructor said that he has taught students as young as grade 4 with it, and I see application for it in many grades, all the way up to high school. I also got to learn about a local invasive species and how to build bird houses to prevent further invasion to the local Bluebird.

This is myself and my friend Miss H. Mathieson!
GO TEAMWORK!

I was already an advocate for environmental education, and have been actively modelling it in my block placement so far. The students in my class laugh when I pick up non-compostables out of the green bin.
I am passionate about our need as people to band together to lower our impact on our planet, so that we can plan long term for our future. I hope that by engaging students in environmental education, more people will be able to develop a sense of responsibility for respecting our planet.  I hope to encourage more teachers to see their influence on developing a sense of environmental awareness, and take accountability to become educated themselves.
