Looking for an article for SITN?
One of the ongoing
assignments for this year will be a weekly "science in the news"
(SITN) report. The details of this assignment were provided to you in class
this week, and a PDF outline of the assignment should be available on the blog
by the weekend. As all of you know, I subscribe to both National Geographic and
National Geographic for Kids, but both magazines are also available on-line,
and I suggest both as possible resources for you to select an article from for
this assignment.
When on the National Geographic for Kids website, select
the "News" tab across the top, and explore any of the categories for
related stories, and when on the National Geographic website, "Daily News" tab across the top and
explore any of the categories .
You may find there
is more variety of subject areas in the stories on the National Geographic
website, but they might also be a bit more difficult to read and understand
than the articles on the National Geographic for Kids. Both resources are reliable sources of
current news and information, and neither is a "better" choice to
find an article on for the purpose of the SITN assignment. A good indicator of a well written article is
whether or not you are able to find out exactly who the author of the article
is (who wrote it). Try and keep this in
mind if you decide to look elsewhere for an article on the internet.
As always, come to
me with any questions you might have regarding any of the stories/subjects you
come across, even if you do not end up selecting it for your SITN report!
Happy thoughts,
Miss Scott
P.S. Here is the
link to a story I found on the National Geographic Site that really interested
me! Give it a read if you have time... Evidence of water on Mars?
